MACON, Ill. — A veteran presence rose to the occasion on opening night of the Cornfield Combat at Macon Speedway, as Craig Ronk of Warsaw, Ind., powered his No. 94R machine from fourth starting position to victory in the 600cc Outlaw Winged Micros A-Feature.
Ronk, who has enjoyed plenty of success on the national micro sprint stage, steadily worked his way through the field before securing the top spot and holding off a hard-charging group of competitors to claim the checkered flag.
California’s KJ Snow delivered one of the most impressive drives of the evening, climbing from 10th on the grid to finish runner-up, advancing eight positions in the 20-lap feature. Cole Tinsley of Bonne Terre, Mo., started second and rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.
Aiden Purdue of Clinton, Ill., gained five spots to finish fourth, while Matthew Howard of Lawrence, Kan., completed the top five.
Other notable performances included Billy Lieb of Hammond, Ill., who improved five positions to finish seventh, and Jaxton Wiggs of Benton, Ill., who charged from 20th to 11th, earning hard-charger honors with a gain of nine positions.
Polesitter Aarik Andruskevitch of Riverton, Ill., slipped back to eighth, while early contenders like Devin Feger (sixth) and Cody Key (ninth) settled for top-10 finishes after battling in the lead pack early.
Mechanical issues and tough racing luck sidelined Kameron Chamness, Chase Hyland, and Sean Robbins, all of whom recorded DNFs.
