Kyle Busch earns his first win with RCR

“It’s phenomenal," that's what Kyle Busch said about his win on Sunday.

It was all smiles for Kyle Busch on Sunday at Auto Club Speedway. Kyle fetched his first victory with Richard Childress Racing, his first win in 2023, and picked up his 61st NASCAR Cup Series victory. Kyle now holds the all-time record for most consecutive Cup Series seasons with a win, which is 19 seasons. In 2005, Kyle got his first Cup Series win at Fontana and he gave the track a great send-off by grabbing his 61st Cup Series win at the famed track when he raced for Hendrick Motorsports. Auto Club is scheduled to be turned into a short track and the track will not be on the 2024 Cup Series schedule.

Kyle had a strong car all day and his presence was felt almost immediately. However, it did take him (Busch) a while to get to the front after he served a pit road speeding penalty. Busch was on Ross Chastain’s tail for the majority of the second-to-last-green flag run. The strategy to pit him during the closing laps was what got him the race; multiple cars pitted following Kyle and Chastain. From there, a strategy play by Michael McDowell prevented Busch from getting the top spot, but Kyle’s car was on fresher tires and he stole the lead from McDowell with just 21 laps to go! After that, he brought home the win for RCR.

In an interview with Fox Sports, Kyle said, "There's nothing more rewarding than being able to go to Victory Lane...I think [the win] ranks high because it ranks to the fact that I can do it. I never doubted myself, but sometimes you do. You kind of get down, you wonder what's going on and what's happening, you put yourself in a different situation and you're able to come out here and reward your guys. It's not about me always winning, but it's always about the guys.”

He continues by saying, “I’ve been with a lot of great people that have given me a lot of great opportunities in my career. So it's awesome to be able to reward them. I'm gonna enjoy it for sure, and hopefully, there's many more left to go.” Busch now moves out of a tie for ninth on the most Cup Series all-time wins list with Kevin Harvick and has taken back the title of most wins by an active driver in the Cup Series.
