Southern Illinois Raceway review.

Southern Illinois Raceway (SIR) is a quick, high-banked 1/8th mile clay oval most often seeing lap times in the 9 - 11 second range that runs, Mod-Lites, dwarfs, Restrictors, Sportsman's, Winged and Non-Wing outlaw, and Jr. Sprints. The popular raceway is located approximately 5 miles east of Marion, Illinois on Highway 13. This track is DirtRacingNews home track, and covers racing from here all the time. SIR runs almost weekly points races between April and October. SIR is also home to the Engler Machine and Tool Highbanks Hustle (HBH), and the Prairie Farms Terry Sprague Memorial (TSM).

SIR has also hosted the Hart Non-Wing Micro series for a couple of seasons. Track President Jake Palmisano and his wife Whitney work hard to keep this track up and running all year round. Trey Holmes works hard to make sure that the track is race ready every week. And all the staff at SIR are all volunteers. People who take time out of there Saturday to put help put on a show for the community.

Director of competition Kevin Christie told WSIL TV 3's Kendra Sheehan in an interview a few weeks ago, "I'd say that half of the people in this area don't even know that this track is even here." He continues to say that, "It's something that is family oriented, you can bring the whole family. You can bring your lawn chairs, your coolers with drinks and snacks and enjoy something that is really fun." He finished with, "Most of the guys are local, they don't do it for a living, they just do it for fun."
