Zach Daum plus Trifecta Motorsports equals a duo that is on fire! Zach Daum picked up his 5th win in the 2023 Xtreme Outlaw Series season! This trip to Victory Lane not only made Daum the winningest driver on the tour at the moment but will give him to defend his championship at the season finale.
Since pairing up with Trifecta three months ago, they have helped Daum surge in the driver championship standings 287 points back in 9th to 4th. He is now 82 points behind the points leader with just seven races remaining. He has his doubts about a title repeat, but he says even if he doesn’t repeat winning the championship, he still wants to be able to win races.
He said in an interview, “I don’t know if there’s enough time in the championship to catch them guys, so at this point in time, you’re just racing for wins. If we don’t win the championship, I at least want to win the most races.” - Zach Daum
Friday had written another page on its success story after he led all 30 laps around the 3/8th mile Paragon Speedway nearly unchallenged to pick up the $4,000 to-win prize and Trifecta’s fifth national midget victory.
Daum said, “It’s pretty surreal how quickly we’ve gelled. We’ve been really, really consistent, and there are five wins in the equation, too. That’s cool.”
An inversion pill draw of six put Daum on the front row for the A-Main event. He took advantage of it and jumped out to the lead on the opening lap. He opened a gap of two seconds just within the first ten laps, then stretched it to three seconds before the first caution with 18 laps ran flew.
Only one driver was able to challenge him. That driver was the 16-year-old Gavin Miller, who picked up his first win in the Xtreme Outlaw Series. Hot on the trail of his first win chasing his second victory. Miller looked down low on the bottom around Daum on turn two but was not able to make the pass for the lead. Daum altered his line around the track just slightly. He tried to enter the corners differently to try to gain more speed to try to break away from the field again. In the end, Miller was able to catch the “Dauminator” and he settled for the runner-up position, which shrank his points gap down to 71.
For the second time in three races, Hayden Reinbold completed the podium with a strong, third-place finish. After a learning curve for the majority of the season, Reinbold has been on a hot streak recently with six top-10 finishes in the last seven series races.
